We are Sam and Rob.

For over a decade, we’ve run a performance facility in Cornwall, UK, coaching everyone from European pros to committed weekend surfers who take their progression seriously.

We created Surf Performance Systems because we were tired of seeing bad advice dressed up as surf training. We watched surfers waste years on generic beach workouts that looked impressive but didn’t transfer to the water.

So we stepped back and asked a better question:

What does surfing actually demand from the body?

Surfing is a physically demanding sport. It requires rotational strength, explosive power, repeat sprint endurance and resilience under fatigue.

That’s when we stopped guessing and started building structured systems that actually support those demands.

How It works.

We don’t chase trends.

We prioritise evidence-based training. If it doesn’t help you surf better, we don’t include it.

We’ll tell you if your mobility is limited. We’ll tell you if your effort isn’t matching your goals. We coach with honesty and support. Our job isn’t to flatter you, it’s to help you improve.

The Death of "Surf Fitness."

We don’t love that term.

“Fitness” is vague. It often means doing random workouts until you’re tired.

We focus on athletic development.

That means structured programming based on real surf demands. It recognises that a surfer in their 40s requires a different approach to a competitive junior. It respects long-term progress over short-term sweat.

Some surfers thrive with structured digital programming. Others benefit from personalised coaching and ongoing adjustment.

Both require moving beyond lifestyle-style workouts that don’t build durable performance.

Our philosophy is simple:

We are based in Cornwall, UK. It is cold, the waves are heavy, and the conditions are rarely perfect. It is a place that demands resilience.

This is our laboratory. Every program we write for our remote athletes—whether they are in Indonesia, California, or the Gold Coast—has been tested and refined in our gym, on real surfers, in real conditions.

We are not digital nomads with a laptop and a subscription to an exercise library. We are coaches with dirt under our fingernails.
